Man United transfer round-up – feat. Claudio Marchisio, Roberto Firmino & Josh Doughty

Manchester United are set to have a big month of spending in January with Louis van Gaal looking to bolster his squad for a huge push for fourth spot.

The Red Devils are in the scrap for the final two places in the top four and will do well if they add a lot more quality in the January transfer window, which is exactly what the newspapers are expecting, linking Man United to a plethora of talent.

How can Man United accommodate Ander Herrera?

Here is the daily Man United transfer round-up.

Manchester United have joined the race with Chelsea to sign highly-coveted Real Madrid central defender, Raphael Varane. The Frenchman is rated at around £17 million and would be worth every penny, due to his immense talent and potential.

Man United look set to shock Liverpool by signing their long-term target Roberto Firmino in a £25 million deal this January. The Brazilian has been absolutely marvellous in Germany over the past couple of years.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has identified alleged Liverpool target Eder Alvarez Balanta as the man to save his shaky defence.  The Colombian made one appearance at the World Cup.

Manchester United are on the brink of signing Real Salt Lake youngster Josh Doughty. The 17 year old has passed a medical and will sign a deal to join the club’s youth academy.

Just nine months after arriving at Manchester United as the second most expensive signing in the illustrious club’s history, Juan Mata is allegedly on his way out of the door. Mata has been in and out of the starting line-up this season with Louis van Gaal preferring Wayne Rooney in the number 10 role.

Juventus have been forced to offer Claudio Marchisio a new deal amid interest from Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United. The Italian has lost his place in the starting XI to Frenchman Paul Pogba and is an able deputy to the young man and Arturo Vidal.

And finally, Paul Scholes is unsure whether the alleged Man Utd target Gerard Pique can hack it in the Premier League. “He likes being in a side that keeps possession. He is great at home but playing away at the big teams in England is a completely different prospect for a defender.”
