A graduate of Boston University, USA, Adiat is the founder, African Fashion Week, New York. She is also the international publicist and founder of Adiree, a New York-based communications and brand strategy company. In 2010, Adiree launched the annual African Fashion Week in New York, one of the most popular international African focused fashion events, in an effort to place structures around Africa’s fashion industry and promote international economic partnerships from Africa on a global scale.
Following the huge success of the event, Adiat Disu is also working on hosting other international African fashion weeks in other fashion capitals of the world including Paris, Milan, London, Tokyo and Nigeria.
“My daughter is the youngest of the awardees at the ceremony which held last Sunday at Hilton Hotel, Broadway, New York with Nigeria having the highest number of awardees,” Disu said adding, “my daughter was a reliable centre defender like me before her mother stopped her from playing football when she broke her Claiborne in an NCAA college football match in Boston, USA. Her mum told her that football is not meant for female but male, that was why she stopped playing to concentrate on her education.”
Meanwhile, plans are in the pipeline to have a thanksgiving service for Adiat at First Baptist Church, Boston, Massachusetts, USA.
