Blatter posted a message on his Twitter account to say “I’ve made my submission.” Yesterday was the deadline for entries while voting by FIFA’s 209 federations is on May 29. “Today is a key date in the electoral calendar. I’ve made my submission, now the electoral committee follow a process,” Blatter twitted yesterday.
The only contender to identify the five FIFA members nominating him is Dutch federation president Michael van Praag: He cited Belgium, Faeroe Islands, Romania, Scotland and Sweden.
Portugal’s legend, Luis Figo and FIFA vice president Prince Ali bin al-Hussein of Jordan also claim to have nominations.
Two possible candidates from France, longtime Blatter’s ally, Jerome Champagne, and former player, David Ginola, seek to join the race.
FIFA’s election oversight panel will vet the contenders and announce official candidates next month.
